The lecture will include the creation of principles, strategies and recent projects developed by LPA Studio (Studio Juan Palop Casado) in the subtropical context of the Canary Islands, showing the ideas, contradictions, and successes during this disciplinary transition.
The following day, Thursday 17.11, the discussion continues at the workshop with students.
Biography
Prof. Juan Palop-Casado is a Spanish architect, urban planner and university professor. He is the founder and director of the company LPAStudio (https://lpastudio.net/, www.l-p-a.org) specializing in project planning, urban design, infrastructure and landscaping, whose scope is the subtropical south and its unique ecological, economic and cultural conditions.
He is a professor of urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He is the author and co-author of several publications, including the books The Harvard Guide to Architecture, The Harvard Guide to Shopping (Taschen Publisher) and +Urbanism, among others.
He studied at the Faculty of Architecture in Las Palmas, Oxford, and Harvard (MDesS).
He is one of the founders of the Harvard project of the "Grad" research group.
His work has been awarded and recognized in Spain and abroad. Some of his most representative projects are the development of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Maritime Front, the capital reef project of the biosphere reserve, the sports city of UD Las Palmas, the underwater park in the Atlantic Ocean. His works can be seen in Spain, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates...
He is the director and founder of Instituto20grados, a non-profit cultural organization based in the Canary Islands, which develops research projects, seminars and publications that explore advanced ways of urbanisation, and which integrate ecological and cultural dynamics.
